He was a great director, one of the very, very best. I've seen "Lawrence of Arabia" a bunch of times and see something new every time. "Dr. Zhivago" I'm not so crazy about - it didn't age as well as Lawrence.

Comparing David Lean to George Lucas or James Cameron, as some have on here, is ridiculous. David Lean worked with people, not green screens or CGI. The movies Lucas and Cameron make are fun, but there is no comparison between a master like Lean and MTV-generation hacks.

ok, i bypass to disagree. mutually as David Lean become a super director, the prize for "appropriate British Director" is going to Michael Powell. besides the reality that Powell did not acquire the honors that Lean did, Powell's physique of artwork, extraordinarily the flicks he did with Emeric Pressburger went directly to effect a era of filmmakers, extraordinarily Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. enable's not forget that Lean edited 2 of Powell's videos, "The 40 ninth Parrallel" and "considered one of Our airplane Is lacking". i believe that if "Peeping Tom" hadn't been so arguable and bring about Powell just about getting blacklisted by utilising the British action picture marketplace, he could have long gone directly to larger acclaim and could have finally gained an Oscar besides as different awards.
