Purebred cats are expensive, and the prices are like real estate -- whatever the market will bear. The breeders have a lot of money invested in the process and if they're doing it right (proper food, vet care, and breeding for personality as well as looks) they won't be making any money. You can shop around with different breeders and see if they might have a retired breeder they'd give you or let you have for very little money. Kittens are the most expensive. However, even though these are purebred cats, it's best to pick a pet by personality, not looks. You might find a beautiful blue one that has an anti-social personality and that would be a nightmare. I like the looks of the blue Brits, too, and that's my favorite color. However, I have a brown spotted tabby Brit that's the sweetest guy, and he's huge. Just a big cuddly bear. If there are cat shows in your area, this is the best way to meet cat breeders and discuss what you want with them. Since Brits are pretty popular, this would be the best place to talk to more than one.
