I am looking for a presidential candidate to get behind. I keep hearing about Fred Thompson entering the race and how he's going to be a front runner. I went to his website but it's just a place to raise money. Can someone please tell me what he stands for? What will his platform be? What are his positions of things like national security, illegal immigration, health care, taxes, etc.? The last thing I want to do is support a candidate without knowing what they are all about. It seems to me that Thompson is one of those guys who is getting a lot of buzz but no one can tell me why.

Since I saw him in person a few weeks ago, I think I can help.
1. His stance on immigration is why should we trust the feds to do anything when they refuse to enforce existing laws.
2. He is a small government, lower taxes conservative.
3. He is pro life
4. He supports the originalist interpretation of the Constitution
5. He supports the 10th Amendment that allows states to make law on civil unions, but believes that other states do not have to honor it.
6. He supports fighting the terrorists.
7. He is sick of all the stupid partisanship in DC. He gave some nice comments to Sen Lieberman for being honest to his convictions.
8. He believes that government is not the solution to problems, only make them worse. On health care, people need to buy it themselves. I am guessing on the last line based on what he has said.
It is a toss up among Thompson and Romney. I would support Tancredo, but he does not have enough recognition to win.
I think it will be Thompson/Romney as the winning ticket
Hey Fred Thomson is good but Romney is better and will win the primaries im not saying that because im guessing. Here is some basic thought why. McCain is for amnesty and is old now, he wont win. Guiliani proffited off 9/11 and is for torturing people in case of interrogation and is very liberal for a republican. Thomson is missing debates. He said he is all about federalism and it is the core but he crosses it like a hipocrit sometimes and makes me uncomfortable. Romney stands for everything in a broad core belief from moderation. He is also very moral and his backround has absolutely no big flaws whatsoever. here is some things he has done.
Chopper- During the Salt Lake City Olympics, he took over when it was over budget, and looking like a failure. Romney turned it around and made it a success that brought in a $100 million profit. He then donated his entire salary to the games. He also saved the Mass. budget when it had a huge deficit. Romney balanced the budget, and brought a surplus for the state. He has also helped to start up companies such as Staples, and Brookstone, and more. Romney also believes in a strong family and values. He has also been married to his wife for over 30 years. Finally, if elected, he will donate his salary of $400,000 to charity. Romney is the right man for this country.
He's a lot like John McCain, except he has that movie star presence, and no temper. But his positions are pretty similar. He wants to reduce spending and keep taxes low, he's interested in continuing the war in Iraq, and he supports some types of immigration accomodation. I'm not real clear on his immigration position, but basically, he doesn't want to deport anyone, I think, and he does want to build a wall.
Thompson is ok, and I'd probably consider voting for him if he were the nominee, but I like Ron Paul much better. He wants us to move our focus away from Iraq and back to getting Osama Bin Laden, where it should be. He is for a strong defense, and served in the military, but doesn't believe we should be policing the world. He is also strong on immigration...about cutting the incentives to immigrate illegally. And he's the best on cutting taxes and spending. Also, he's a medical doctor, so he undoubtedly understands healthcare better than any of the other candidates.
they're in common terms asking Romney, Guiliani and Thompson questions!!! it is so annoying! so far they simply asked Ron Paul one question, its so problematic.. after which on the top of this methodology they're going to say the front runners are Romney, Guiliani, and Thompson... woah what a marvel because of the fact they have been the only ones asked any freakin questions!!!
Republicans are desperate to hold onto power, why they want Thompson. Thompson stands for nothing, looks good on televison. That's the extent of his qualifications.
