Favor or not to favor?

Favors- are they peices of cheap crap or a nice memory?? Or a snack for the ride home?
What do you think of favors?

Well, since you're queen of the trailer park - a good favor would be a small bag of doritos and a budweiser.

Lots of people on here have said most guests throw away the favors, but I never did. Maybe that's because at the receptions I've attended, the couples provided favors guests would use. When a question has been asked about favor I always recommend making sachets out of potpourri and tulle & ribbon or organza bags. I also recommend using them for candy or making choc. covered strawberries and wrapping them in colored cellophane and tying with a pretty ribbon. I think that no matter what favors a couple choose some people are not going to use them. Even some more expensive favors like silver wine "corks" wont be used by people who dont drink.

If you want to do something memorable for your guests, instead of giving favors you can give to a charity that is important to you and your husband. My husband and I were going to give to the American Cancer Society, and a local charity we both support. We didn't get a chance to for the wedding, so I think that the donations will be a part of our Christmas presents this year. You could make a bookmark for each place setting, or even a few cards on the tables saying something like, "Thank you for helping us celebrate our special day. In your honor, we have made a donation to ?______" You can also buy charity bears online, they are small beanie baby like bears you can purchase for charities that you support, and you can give the bears out as favors. We went to a wedding where that was the favor, and we've kept those bears because that was special to us.
Hope this helps!

Depends on what it is! Honestly, I've only ever had food as a favour - chocolate, candy, etc. I think that's definitely the way to go. First, it's a thank you to your guests for attending. Second, it's something to nibble on while waiting for the bride and groom to arrive at the reception.

I've never received anything as a favor that wasn't edible, but if I got a candle or something like that it would probably end up in the back of my closet. I hate to say it, but I just don't have room for little things like that in my place.

The one thing I really like is either seeds or a little tree to plant. I don't have a yard (I'm in an apartment) so I'd probably give it to a friend, but I think it's an excellent idea and better than candles or other things like that.

Favors don't have to be useful. If you find something that you can incorporate into your table design/center pieces then go for it! But don't be disappointed if guests don't snatch them up and you have a bunch left on the table. Guests will notice more that the tables looked pretty and put together. Also, some guests may think the favors just look too pretty on the tables to take and put in their purse. Guests don't go to weddings expecting anything, they are there to share your special day! Memories are the best favor you can give.
