Methods for tanning a rattlesnake hide?
Any ideas would be helpful. I dont want a dry tan such as salt . I would prefer it to turn out soft like leather

Well I always used salt and then linseed oil. I would say it comes out about close to leather. Just don't use a whole bunch of salt and only keep the salt on for an hour or so then rub on the oil and it should turn out good. Got me a trophy at the first of the summer. Was weedeating in the park. It was a good thing it was still cool out in the mornings or I would have been toast. I weedeated right over the top of the thing and it didn't move. I thought it was dead until I tried to pick it up with the shovel.

I used to get a bottle of tanning solution from Tandy Leather Co. that was made just for snake and lizard skins. It worked great.
