Consciousness in my view is about willing, thinking, feeling or imagining.... while these functions can result in physical manifestations, I can't see how we can believe that the willing or thinking or feeling or imagining by itself can be physical....... however, science has not found any proof to accept the existence of anything non-physical and it therefore claims that mind that thinks or feels or wills or dreams is very much an aspect of the physical brain itself and would be nullified if brain stops to function.....
Nevertheless, as I said earlier, I really find it difficult to go with this current position of science... I therefore believe that there is a non-physical soul which controls the non-physical mind which in turn controls the physical brain which in turn controls the physical body..... in order to convert thoughts and intentions etc. into physical manifestations as required.

It is a non-physical thing caused by physical action - just as music is a non-physical thing caused by physical action. In the case of consciousness, the physical event generating it is the movement of electrical neurological impulses in sufficient density and organization in the brain. I see no reason this couldn't be done also in a computer as soon as computer speeds catchy up in speed and depth of processing to brains, which may be later this week!

Consciousness is a MENTAL state.

A TWO year old child will play with a LIVE deadly COBRA SNAKE

But a 10years or 40 YEARS old GUY will be afraid to PLAY with it.He is CONSCIOUS of the PROCEEDINGS

Child is a PHYSICAL state and still mentally not developed.

It used to be thought of as occurring in the brain. More and more research is showing that it may be a distributed quality of the entire body and there are strong hints that the quantum field may be involved.
The entire idea of parting mental-spiritual-physical phenomena from each other is an over-simplification.
