Car Audio Opinions?

I think that sometimes we tend to get wrapped up in what brands/speakers we like so much, that we forget that its all opinion based.

for example kicker_guy_l7 loves L7s and Kicker in general. He thinks they sound great, and they have great SPL. Thats where i disagree with him. i think Kickers have good SPL, but sound horrible. does that mean hes wrong? no. does that mean i'm wrong? no. it means were 2 different people that hear things differently.

Now he has accused me indirectly of never hearing a L7 or a Kicker sub. this is where i have to draw the line. its very unfair for someone assume what others have, or have not heard. everyone's experience is different. and as i have said before everyone hears different things. there is no need to be childish.

i dont hold a grudge against kicker_guy_l7. i'm just letting people know to be civil to each other in here. there is no need for childish acts over a difference in opinion.

Metalman, I have always valued your opinon, because your honest, and always clear to point out it is only a opinion. you've also been good to point out how two different items differ, not implying that one is better than the other, just what thier differences are, and i have heard some of the products you have commeted on, and typically my opinion closely reflects what you have said.

Keep doing what your doing...

As for kicker_guy_l7, he needs to apreciate that we will not all agree, and that is the very reason there are multiple companies to begin with, to accomidate different tastes. People need to realize that just because someone does not agree with your choice in audio, it does not mean that they disrepsect you. it's simply a difference of opinion. And i have no doubt that you have heard a L7 before, i mean who hasn't? they are everywhere.

I agree...this is a copy and paste of a question I answered caraudio.com.Its just an example of opinions. The topic was L7 VS. Type R alpine.Which was better

"A great thing about Forums....they are a great place to express ones knowledge and OPINIONS. Being in car audio for 18-19 years now,I have always been asked which is better....this or that. Well Im gonna tell you right here and now. MOST car audio opinions of products are formulated
from experience and not facts/science. This is a FATAL FLAW in judging various products. The main reason is we as the asker do not know what the circumstances were in each person. This meaning....what kind of enlosure was used, how well was it built, what kind of amp used, what kind of deck, was there enough voltage supplied, was the right size wire used, was the system/speakers laid out for the proper sound enhancing, what kind of vehicle.....you get my point...TOO MANY factors. BUT...I will say that I have used BOTH with there proper enclosure specs...both ported and sealed. It is also difficult to judge alot of times because various brands/products perform suprisingly close sometimes.

Sometimes you are comparing 2
great products. That is the case here. In MY opinion, both are exceptional subs and choosing the right one will determine what kind of sound you are looking for. If you are looking for SPL,I suggest using the L7 in a ported enclosure or a sealed enclosure at about 10% more than recommended air space. If you want sound quality, then go with the alpines at about the middle range of recommended air space. They will give you a range between .65 to 1.0 cuft airspace...go around .75 to .85 cuft. As with any great sub,you will get great perfomance so long as you supply them with ample power or with in RMS range and THE RIGHT TYPE OF ENCLOSURE. My rule of thumb is to supply the sub with at LEAST half of its RMS rating. Use a good amp(meaning not cheap)or one thats CEA compliant 2006 and they both will sound great. I have used both at these subs with the aboved mentioned variables and that is my opinon of them. Good luck."

ALL WHAT I MENTIONED PLAYS A VERY IMPORTANT ROLE WHEN LISTENING TO SUBS

Well said. Through my realm of buying & selling subs I've owned an L7 and would agree with you. Great SPL, but sounded sloppy. Granted, it could've been the enclosure I had for it or the environment the sub was in. As far as I'm concerned, the L5 sounded a little better to me ... their CVR's sounded better then both of them to me.

But what I'm getting at is ... if it sounds good to you, that's all that matters. No need to make childish accusations. If it's time to go away mad, it's time to just go away.

i agree. everyone listens 2 different kinds of music..rock, rap, r&b, pop, whatever and they all want their music to have a specific sound. which is why there are thousands of brands and many sizes of amps and subs. some people just want a little bass that they dont get from their speakers, and some want their truck 2 vibrate and make as much noise as possible to attract attention. my opinion is kickers are good, but they're just for the attention.

Well played.

Opinion often interferes with what we have experienced.

The vastly different configurations of a system along with the vehicle it goes in will determine the outcome. This is all too often what makes or breaks a system in the 'ears' of the listener.

Objective listening is the hardest thing to do.
