What causes specific scar colors?

I know they change color with age and amount of healing, but how does depth or amount of tan at time of injury affect it, if at all? It just seems that they are different.
I have some scars that are reddish(newer, deepish ones) and some that are browner than my skin tone, and then some that are lighter.

Just curious.

Scar colors are dependent on the type of injury that gave you the scar, how clean the wound was, and your specific skin type. It also depends on the type of scar that forms. Keloids, for example, are usually red, raised, and keep growing for years. See below for more.

Sorry you weren't able to keep the scars from occuring in the first place. Oour son got a weekly shot that kept his acne from breaking through the skin and scarring him. The only thing my dermatolgist offers for scars are lasar treatments over several months that cost about $3000.
