How do you get a mildew smell out of a mop?
A friend of mine asked me this question-if it was me I'd just throw it away and get a new one.

Put it in a bucket of hot water and bleach this should do the trick but make sure she rinses it throughly before use. Might be a funny pressie if you land at her house with a mop with a bow on it!! I would laugh if someone got me one. Good luck

I would also say throw it away and get a new one. But, if your friend absolutely must keep his/her beloved mop; soaking it in 1/4 cup bleach mixed in a gallon or two of hot water will do the trick.

Soak the mop in a bucket of water and some bleach then let it dry in the sun,

Make a bleach and water soak to rest the mop in for the day. Not too much bleach (not full strength!), it'll deteriorate the sponge/strings.

I think you should throw it away. You wouldn't want the mildew to spread on the floor.
