I just got one in June; I didn't have to go to court. I sent the money for the fine and asked to attend the Traffic Course. This course is 8 hours and upon completion you have to send the certificate to the Court. This course keeps the violation off your driving record. Don't get another within 18 months; if you do, it will go on your record and the insurance company will be notified.

You don't have to go to Traffic school if you don't care if it shows on your record and your insurance company is notified.

The 8 hours is very boring and you have to pay 38 dollars when you go. Has to be in cash.

If you request the school you will have to pay the fee to the court of 40 dollars. My fine was 152$ plus the 40$. Then I found out I had to pay for the instructor the 38$.

What county did you get it in?

Edit~ I called the Court and asked them if I could send in the fine and attend the course. I'm in California

Follow these directions carefully:

Buy a fully refundable plane ticket to New York. It will cost a fortune but you will get every penny back.
Go to the office and tell them you need to change your court date...DO NOT CALL!!!
Take the ticket with you, but dont pull it out immediately. Tell the person at the office that you are going out of town for business and you need to change your court date.
She will not believe you, at this point pull out the ticket and explain once again that you have to go out of town.

SIDE NOTE: Each officer has one court date a month when they will do all their tickets. This date is different each month and the office has no information of the officer's future court dates.

Now you will be given a random court date, probably about a month later.
Refund your ticket, go to court on that day.
90 percent chance the cop will not show up and everything will be erased from your record.
Even if the cop does show up, all u did was take an unncessary trip to your local office.

I'd suggest calling the courts to find out your alternatives for appearing. Each time I've received a speeding ticket, I've been offered the chance, at least here in Florida, of attending Driver Improvement School in lieu of court. Driver Improvement School also prevents points from being applied to my driver's license; points are a method of gaging how safe and, conversely, how insurable, a driver is to the insurance industry. Driver School does cost money, but it's better than a shaming session in court.

Best case scenario; slow down and avoid getting tickets. It's something I struggle with often and slowing down has helped me greatly.

When I got a traffic ticket, I just mailed them a check and was done with it. See if you can't pay early so you don't have to spend your time in court. I agree, call the clerk.
