My cat is 13 years old and makes odd noises while sleeping?
I've had him since i was three years old, hes always been attached to me more than anyone else. hes always been my companion, he sleeps on my bed every night. Anyway, just recently whenever he sleeps, he goes into a very, very deep sleep and it is difficult to wake him up. He often twitches and makes odd groaning-like noises. Often time he doesnt know what he wants, he will lead me to his dishes when they are full or he will lead me to the door when he doesn't want out. He has become much more affectionate, mainly towards me. One night at about 2 am i woke up to him making wheezing sounds, they were loud enough to wake me up. At this point he was awake, and he was wheezing and moving his head, this wasnt him coughing up a hairball, it was different and something jsut wasnt right. I paniced and I didn't know what to do but i tried to calm him down and pat his head and he looked at me and eventually calmed down and he started purring very gratefully and stayed up for a few minutes then went back to sleep. It really freaked me out, I thought he was dying. I would like to bring him to the vet but it is up to my mom since our vet is kind of far away and I don't think she thinks it is serious enough to bring him to the vet (if you didnt attack me for this it would be much appreciated..) anyways, is this just the behavior of old age? Hes a very healthy cat and he is still very active. Anyhelp?
