My cat is 13 years old and makes odd noises while sleeping?
I've had him since i was three years old, hes always been attached to me more than anyone else. hes always been my companion, he sleeps on my bed every night. Anyway, just recently whenever he sleeps, he goes into a very, very deep sleep and it is difficult to wake him up. He often twitches and makes odd groaning-like noises. Often time he doesnt know what he wants, he will lead me to his dishes when they are full or he will lead me to the door when he doesn't want out. He has become much more affectionate, mainly towards me. One night at about 2 am i woke up to him making wheezing sounds, they were loud enough to wake me up. At this point he was awake, and he was wheezing and moving his head, this wasnt him coughing up a hairball, it was different and something jsut wasnt right. I paniced and I didn't know what to do but i tried to calm him down and pat his head and he looked at me and eventually calmed down and he started purring very gratefully and stayed up for a few minutes then went back to sleep. It really freaked me out, I thought he was dying. I would like to bring him to the vet but it is up to my mom since our vet is kind of far away and I don't think she thinks it is serious enough to bring him to the vet (if you didnt attack me for this it would be much appreciated..) anyways, is this just the behavior of old age? Hes a very healthy cat and he is still very active. Anyhelp?

Cats snore when they sleep. When my cat is sleeping I can hear him snoring/ breathing sounds and he only 6 years old but it also because he's a bit overweight.

It's so hard to lose an animal when you are so attached to it, but it's a part of life and you need to remember that you gave the cat a wonderful life.
Try again with your mom to take him to the vet just to help calm your own nerves down about it. It's likely that it's just old age showing it's ugly head and your cat might be taking a trip to the other side very soon. The best thing you can do is love him until he is gone :)

Cats do dream when deeply asleep, as opposed to "just resting" which is what they do most of the time. You can get growls, strange noises in the throat, chattering of teeth, twitching paws, all sorts. No-one knows what they dream about but I've always thought it seems like hunting. By the way, has he been wormed? That might be something to do with the constant hunger. Or perhaps it's just greed . . .

Bring him to the vet right away! This sounds serious, and you need to take charge to save your cat, or find out how you can continue to keep him healthy. Wheezing is never normal, and he needs your help!

oh ym god thats sounds well scary. yeah i would say not to worry to much though as cats get run down when they get old just like people do. it wouldnt do any harm to take him to the vet so do as soon as possible. i know they are really expensive but you could go to a "blue cross center" which give free animal care. i hope he gets better and is ok dont worry to much though hes old but not ancient so he probably has a few more years left

Kitty's getting old. Older cats often wheeze in their sleep. It's kind of like snoring.

my cat is 12 and makes little wheezes in his sleep. it doesn't seem to bother him...but if it looked like it was bothering him i'd probably take him to the vet.

well maybe he is having nightmares.
that happened to my old cat once however It could be a lung problom so I would call a vet and get an opinion on it

You should try the vet, he might have a respiratory problem like someone said. And don't worry about people saying he might "kick the bucket", they are just idiots...

Bring him to the veterinarian just in-case. But he probably just is snoring or something. Maybe, It's just a hairball
