It's a lot, but there are some really cheap things mixed in there. Some (batteries, cards) would be good stocking stuffers (if you still do that). I think he honestly knows he won't get it all, but he's trying to get what he wants. If there's a Linen's N Things near you, head over there and see if you can get the tool kit, poker chips, mantle, throw, rug, bed linens, lava lamp, and board game. Since they're closing, it should be fairly cheap (I got a nice bottle opener for my boss there last week). You should just theme the Christmas gifts and go with all the football stuff.
WOW! that is quite the list. I don't know your son but either he really is expecting too much or he gave you such a big list so you could share some of the items with grandparents and family members when they call you asking what he might like. It is also possible that he wasn't sure what your price ranges were going to be like this year and gave you a variety of things he would like from big ticket to much cheaper so you could buy things that you thought were appropriate and could afford and he would still get what he wants. Some of the things are a little far fetched. I would stick to the more practical items on the list and throw a few fun ones in. I would suggest the USB flash drive (he can use it for school), the mantle for his trophies (sentimental), and then maybe a few games and the wireless controllers if that is something that he uses and will play a lot. Stay away from the really expensive items, the mini fridge, and anything that sounds like mischief (cap guns, supersoakers, lighters).
If you are asking others what they think then you already know the answer to your question. I believe that he has a list big enough for 5 or 6 teenagers. If I were you I would tell him how much you have planned on spending and let him find the prices for the items. Then, I would have him shorten the list to fit in your budget. This could teach him a big lesson about money management.
You need to have him tone it down a bit. My parents always told me to pick one big item that I couldn't live without and four smaller items.
But, don't be upset about him giving you a large list. Without you telling him the guidelines he doesn't know how large or small to make the list.
If he complains about making the list smaller, explain Christmas isn't about getting everything you could ever want, but about the joy of giving and recieving.
Teenager?14-17? seems kinda spoiled lol and the word EXPECTED is funny as hell im a teen i want a ipod touch and i have to pay part of it for my Christmas gift and that is reasonable because its expensive... besides has he ask you what you want?
