Husband's employer is collecting toys kids at a local children's hospital and hubby got the 2 choices above. Now I am drawing a blank at what to get these children. Each has a $20 limit, but we can purchase as many gifts for each, as long as we don't go over the $20 limit. I'm thinking these two are probably in grades 1 or 2 (girl) and 6 or 7 (boy). I've thought about a doll, play jewelry so far for the girl, but have NO clue what to buy for a 12 yr old boy.
Remember these kids are IN the hospital, so nothing that requires them to go outside, and they don't have a lot of room to play.

My cousin's are about that age. The little girl loves anything with "Hannah Montana" or "High School Musical" on it. She also loves those arts and craft kits where you make bracelets or other jewelery or things out of beads.
As for the boy, it really depends on what they like to do. My brother likes cards, puzzles like a Rubik cube, and drawing. Not sure what else the would play with at that age other than video games. Some like to draw or read.
For the girl: As far as I know, most girls at that age like Hannah Montana, and I'm pretty sure they make hannah montana dolls. So perhaps that, or other Hannah Montana merchandise? Also, a friendship bracelet kit, or other jewelry kit, they tend to be below $20. OR, perhaps nail polish or little age appropriate make-up kits. I'm sure it would be fun for her, and perhaps a family member or nurse can help her paint her nails, and put on lip gloss.
For the boy: I really am not so sure what 12 year old boys like, so I'm not going to have as many as for the girl. BUT, maybe a soft football he can just play catch with somebody. Just make sure it's a soft one! Don't need any broken hospital equipment! Another thing is small handheld video games. Some types can be cheaper than $20. Monopoly, and puzzles, can be big hits too, as well as a whole bunch of other board games.
Get one of those indoor/outdoor small child sized slides (made of plastic) with a ladder and holes for footing to climb... If they already have one- try a build a bear gift card (one for each). You could get him a remote control helicopter (at Walmart) and her a cool doll- ya know just in case they aren't into the same things.
My nephew (he's 11) loves Lego sets. They are fun for him and keep him occupied-I mean you want the kids to be occupied so they aren't in as much pain. Most sets are cheap (less than $20) and they are very fun to play with once you build them. I hope this helps ya out.
