They prefer the set that gives them the most stuff and lets them do what they want.

I think I and my sister always liked my maternal grandparents a little more, though it was less pronounced when I was little. They lived right outside of Washington DC (both are deceased now) whereas my paternal parents live in Alabama, so there's a lot more to do in DC. When I was little, my cousins were always around in Alabama and I didn't have any cousins on my mother's side until I was 6, so that kind of evened it out. My paternal grandparents don't really do anything. When I go there now, since all of my cousins have their own families or are in college (my sister and I are by far the youngest grandkids), I can literally not leave the house for over a week. When I go to Maryland, I would go somewhere every day pretty much. I'd visit my great grandma, go see the Mall in DC, visit my brother (he's only my father's son), stay with my aunt for a few days, or go to Virginia where my ancestral home is. So it was just much more interesting.

I think that my kids love both grandparents the same but if they had to choose who house to go to over the other, I think they would say my parents over my in-laws...I think mostly because I have a 9yr old adopted brother and my son is 4 and my daughter is 2 and they play alot with him...my in-laws are more dry and boring...and no cousins on that side...but one will be born anyday...so that may change in the future...
I also see favoritism on both sides who favor my son...he is the first and only grandson...and my BIL and his wife are having a girl...I always feel like my daughter gets left out and I complain about it...but they always have the excuse that she is too little and doesn't need that may toys or gifts...but she is getting older and they better put out equally for both this Christmas or I am going to be mad if they make my daughter feel bad!

Yes they each have a favorite set of grandparents and unfortunately I think that each set of grandparents prefers one of my children over the other. My children tend to lean more to the grandparents that like them the best. I can sense the favoritism and I have let them know it. nothing changes, though.

No kids yet, but I sure did. Kids can't be expected to enjoy the company of stern, stuffy grandparents just as much as the Fun Grandpa.
