Regular for 18 years,Missed period. Test Not pregnant?

I am completely confused. I missed my period for the first time in 18 years, the only other three times I've missed it was with my three pregnancies. I have completed a pregnancy test, about 5 days after m missed period and it resulted in "not pregnant". I have not gone under stress or have any obvious signs of trouble such as abdominal pain or discharge, my diet is the same, I have not had any major changes in lifestyle. What could be wrong? Any others out there that have had this same problem and what ultimately resulted?
