Is the honors program in college worth it...?

I was part of my college's honors program, and I have no regrets whatsoever. My program didn't require more classes to graduate or anything, but I did have to take a certain number of lower and upper division classes through the honors program. These classes weren't necessarily more difficult or more work. The class sizes were small (capped at 20), and the professors who taught the classes were excellent. I went to a large state school, so it was nice to be in classes where everyone did the reading and was willing and able to discuss concepts in an informed and intelligent way. I also had to complete a certain number of community service hours and present my senior project at a convocation.

I would definitely recommend it to others. It looks great on your transcripts and resume. Also, being involved with my college's program gave me many opportunities to be involved with the school that I wouldn't have had otherwise....Show more

It depends on the college. At mine, the honors program also meant smaller classes, and generally more interesting material. It was more work and a lot harder (only 4 of the 46 who started with the honors track finished it), but it's worth it in the end if you are going to apply to grad school....Show more
