Is 18 months too young to start my daughter in ballet class?
My little girl will be 14 months in a few weeks...but she enjoys dancing soooo much! She dances to ANY music she hears...its adorable! Just last night she threw a fit because grandma wouldnt let her watch and dance to dancing with the stars.lol... and i would really like her to interact with other little girls and if she likes it, keep encouraging the dicipline. But I was wondering if 18 months is too young. Is your daughter in ballet? What age did you start taking her?

My 3 year old has just started and she struggles to pay attention for the 30 minute class. I would say an 18 month old will certainly not be able to concentrate on a class and will more than likely disrupt the class. If you can find a 'twinkle toes' class or similar for that age, they're a bit more freestyle dancing and fun for toddlers.
I would say yes. I have a 2 year old and I can't see her paying attention in a dance class like ballet. I plan on enrolling her in a Tiny Tots gymnastics class where her and I both participate.
On the other hand, if this dance school has a special class for babies that age, then check it out. The teacher might have a good program going for little ones with very short attention spans.
my daughter does the same thing. My girl is 20 months. I think it would be ok to have her interact with other children who also like music and dance. I don't think I'd pay for classes at this age though, my daughter understands a lot but she doesn't talk yet. I'm not sure she'd understand what a teacher is trying to do.
Yes...18 months is too young. I doubt you'll find a place that will accept them younger than 3. They just can't pay attention in a group and understand what the teacher would be wanting of them at that age. Try a mommy and me class of some kind....then each child has a parent..they have tumble ones..and exercise for mommy ones...and swim ones....maybe you'll find a dance one!
