Getting hired at a shop?
So for years on end my hobby has been tuning, working on, modifying and restoring sportbikes and cars. Particularly as of late my main has been working on Porsches. I've wanted to inquire about employment part time at a few shops and I know I'd do great, but I heard that I have to be "certified" for mechanic work. Is this true? If it is what do I need to do or where to go to get "certified"? Figured I'd post up, this is actually the first question I've asked on here, so it would be nice to hear from some mechanics who know about what's required to be "legit" in the wrenching world.

Thanks TmB - Anything else I should be aware of? Experience list of types of work i'm able to do? Etc?
I'll check out the ASE stuff. I'm self taught, so I don't have many hookups to learn what i do and don't need on getting hired. Lol it'd mostly be for fun on the side if anything else.
