Death Note Question, please help?
I don't know much about Death Note, and I was wondering why Light is killing all these people under the name Kira... isn't he supposed to be a good guy? 10 points for a good synopsis? Thanks.

He isn't really a good guy. I think he believes he is inhis mind, but he isn't.
SPOILER: When Light first recieves the Death Note, he is a bored, but highly intelligent kid, who wants to stop all of the pointless violence in the world. The Death Note is a notebook that Gods of Death use to kill people in our world. A God of Death, dropped it his Death Note in our world because he was also bored. Light vows to become a God(in our world) with this notebook. He uses the allias, Kira, to communicate with the world. In the beginning he has good intentions, but they just start to get convoluted as the series proceeds. He starts by only killing bad guys, but then he eventually begins to kill anyone that disagrees with him.... or anyone who might discover who he is. He killed mostly bad guys, but he screwed up/killed so many GOOD people in order to preserve his identity (i.e. sister, dad, L :(, and a random *** FBI agent) In other words.... he aint good! Really good show. It might be my favorite of all time... and trust me.... I've watched A LOT of animes.

Kira hates criminals, he believes they are the scum of the earth and deserve to be punished so rumors start circulating on the internet and they are calling him "Kira", so he plays along and gets a following from people from all around the world. Yagami Light thinks he is doing the right thing so the police hire L the famous detective to solve the case.
Well its a tough call to make on whether he is a good or bad. It depends on your point of view. Me personally; I thinks he is a good guy but takes things a bit to far as it progresses.

Basically, he started out killing someone to prove to himself that the Death Note was real. He had a dream of purging all the evil from the world, and began to kill criminals with the Death Note. Some online people dubbed him "Kira" and started making up theories about who he was. Light went with it, because obviously the police would get him unless he was under a alias.
It's interesting, I don't really believe he's a good guy, yet he's still the main character.

Light is a smart and intelligent guy, he himself is an example of a perfect young man, perfect grades, good looks, happy and perfect family.
The situation makes him arrogant, he wants an ideal condition, he 'demand' anything in the top level.
He is bored, he wants challenge, he has 'conquered' everything a teenager/young man could do. Deep within himself, he wanted to do something big, he wanted more. He wanted and ideal world, the world now is rotten, someone must re-structure the world.
Then, he got Death Note. His intelligent brain quickly processed it, with some complex resolution, processing, and strategy only a genius could do, he quickly resolved that he could be the God to this rotten world, restructuring it, throwing away all trash, then the world will be clean.
Death Note, in Light's hands, as sick as it might sound, is used to it's full potential.
So, it's depend on your own perspective, I myself thinks that he's a bad guy, killing people is never a nice thing to do. But I do 'admire' him for his charisma, courage, and 'creativity' to make the world shake by his own hands.

well i finished the whole Anime a basically the reason he is killing people is because he wants a better and non-violent world so he plays god throughout the Anime killing criminals and basically people that he sees as a waste of a human being who has no purpose in this world. He kills them by using a book which he received from a demon like creature i forgot what the demons are called, all in all its one of the best Anime i saw.
