So today my friend compared Twilight to Romeo + Juliet because she thought it was like a modern day version...... Is she going insane??? Twilight is an okay movie but to compare it to a work of Shakespeare directed by the awesome Baz Luhrman and starring one of the best actors, Leonardo DiCaprio?? Who else agrees with me or has the world gone crazy?

Umm ya! Twilight was ok, like you said, but everyone needs to stop acting like its something special. Shakespeare and that crap called a love story should never even be mentioned in the same sentence as far as I'm concerned!!! ....And Baz Luhrman IS awesome. I could rant all day about Twilighters lol
i havent read twilight , i hear its really gud though .! i do know too that its abt vamps and stuff like that , which cannot be compared to shakespeare not becoz the movie romeo and juliet was directedd by luhrman or because it stars Leonardoo dicaprio ( who i dont know if is much of a gud actor, id have to watch more movies of his to find out ) ..but because shakespeare is too gud to be compared ..the passion tht one finds in his work doesn't exist in to days greatest works or in todays wrld for tht matter !
Well, the book itself keeps referencing Romeo + Juliet, so that's probably why your friend made that connection. They are definitely nothing alike and it's a shame to have Shakespeare compared to a piece of fluff like Twilight. Enjoyable maybe but still fluff.
Twilight the movie was utterly terrible. You can just barf on it in comparison to the book. I hope they do better with New Moon. There's no point watching it if it's going to be as bad as the first. Anyhow, even the Twilight book lacks much originality. Oh come on! Vampire babies and werewolves? Ugh.
So, yes, compared with such a classic, your friend is slightly "dumb"? No offense of course but to even think in such a way, that's no way to credit Shakespeare, especially to compare it to *turns away* Twilight.
If you're going to compare Twilight, please use the book. The movie is just off. She's probably comparing it to Romeo and Juliet because both stories have forbidden loves. They'll do anything they can do be together no matter how wrong it may be.
