My kids go to 4 different schools (different grades) and none of them celebrate ANY holidays except you know the ones like Memorial Day, Labor Day....Nothing for Christmas, Halloween, Easter. I guess I understand not doing the religious holidays BUT why Halloween its just fun and here theres no acknowledgment of it at all. No class parties, parade, costumes are even forbidden at 3 of the schools. I remember it being a big and fun part of school for me and it makes me sad to think they are taking all the fun out of school and wondering why kids dont like school.....Please tell me about your kids, school and holidays thanks :) Oh and also they have no parties for any other holiday either so its not just that they dont approve of Halloween.

Funny about high school still doing the costumes and treats stuff BUT out of all my kids my son is a Senior in high school and his is the only one allowing costumes, lol.

I understand that it seems strict but in my opinion they are neglectful not strict. They do not even have events for the kids like dances during the year. They have Prom and thats the only entertainment. Its a neglectful uninvolved school district and even when we try we get ignored or pasified...its terrible and I wish we could move! My main point for this question was to make sure it wasnt something comon or new going around because Ive been telling my husband its only here and wasnt really sure...now I am :(

My son's school does. This is his first year there, but I guess there were a few years that went by that they didn't celebrate Halloween. The only thing is is that the kids can't dress in any costume that is too violent and no toy weapons.
Not Halloween related, but when we lived in Virginia the school he attended there didn't have any Christmas celebrations. This wasn't the staff's decision but it was happening around the time where some people were making a fuss over Christmas decorations and such. Do you remember a couple years back when some retail stores and I think an airport had to remove either remove anything decorations they put up that had to do with Christmas, either that or put up Hanukkah and Kwanzia (sp) stuff too.
Hi, yes my son's school celebrates Halloween from 1st grade and up. Last year he was in kindergarten so he couldn't wear his costume (they don't allow kindergarteners to wear costumes because they are little and too much hassle for them) but this year he's in 1st grade so he got to wear his costume. They are having a parade and parents are welcome to come, I can't wait to go since it's today. After the parade, they're having class parties and passing out treats and playing games. They do have christmas parties later in the year but they don't really call them "christmas parties" since it's a public school. On valentine's day, they pass out treats. And the last thing they celebrate is the end of the school year. They set up games, inflatables, and have a pot luck dinner. I'm sorry that your kid's schools don't celebrate holidays. Some schools are really strict.
Christmas and Easter are considered religious holidays and in public schools they won't be recognized because of the separation of church and state. If they recognized those they would have to recognize ALL religious holidays around those times as well and it would just get to be too much. If you were in an Christian school those would be celebrated. Halloween is not done in alot of schools anymore because of so many violent costumes that kids were coming in with from home. Even if your kids were'nt trust me, other people were doing it. Halloween is also not celebrated or recognized by some people in different faiths because it is against what their beliefs teach. There is also the food allergy issue in alot of classrooms or schools so they eliminate parties so no one sends in cookies or something that may have nut traces in them or some other allergy issue for someone. That's also why alot of schools banned peanut butter items- which IMHO is RIDICULOUS. There a comes a point and time to teach children about their allergy and that you don't eat things from other peoples lunches or things you don't know for sure if they will affect your allergies or not when you go to a gathering somewhere rather than ruining it for everyone else. It's not like they ban perfume or hairspray in schools for the kids with asthma issues that could trigger from that stuff. The main reason I think though is because schools have become less about teaching and letting kids be kids in each grade to "shove the information for a standardized test down their throats to boost our scores" so no one really gets to relax and just teach anymore. It's all become about standardized testing and teaching towards a test rather than just teaching and taking time out now and then to do some of the simple childhood things with kids in the younger grades.
my son goes to a Lutheran Preschool. They celebrate all the holidays. They did trunk-n-treat for halloween and are having a party today.
The High School doesn't really do anything, but that's because of the age. The other kids go to school in another county and I'm not sure what they do.
That's strange, I have never heard of a school that doesn't celebrate Halloween in one way or another. I am in high school and we're still allowed to wear our costumes and bring treats and everything, which I think is kinda funny. I thought they stopped costumes and parties in middle school, but nope, not where I live. Maybe consider suggesting the idea and see what happens next year.
