What if the insane people really are sane, and we're the insane ones?

What is sane? Is it just a norm? What determines sanity? What's the point? Please write your Thoughts/ Comments below.

I know we're all a little weird. Where is the line, at one point does it cross being a little off your rocker to completely insane?

Insanity occurs when a person's thinking goes outside the borders of reason and becomes detrimental to that person's life and the life of others. This probably brings to your mind another question- What is reasonable? It is reasonable for a person to live at least a moderately productive life. It is reasonable to consider the need for productive lives of others. It is reasonable to take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of others. it is reasonable to nurture yourself and to nurture others. It is reasonable to like other people even if you do not like all of them. It is reasonable to work but not all the time, just as it is reasonable to get enough rest and sleep to maintain healthy living. There are diseases of the mind that interfere with a person's ability to think clearly and rationally like schizophrenia and bipolar and mood disorders to mention a few. These are being better diagnosed and treated today and with suitable medication these people can live moderately "Normal" lives. Some people with mental illnesses unfortunately think they are normal and everyone else is weird. Those who determine who is insane or sane need to be certain they are sane themselves and can be able to make objective diagnoses of those that are being classed as insane. A person can be mentally ill yet not insane and that requires the skill of a good mental health practitioner and some commonsense from all concerned

Sanity, when broken down, is a product of the social norm. Society itself determines what is normal and what is not normal. One is not sane if they believe 2+2=5 if society accepts the idea that 2+2=4. However this is simply how sanity is determined in society, it determines what sane is. The idea of insanity itself, in my opinion is a separate branch that isn't directly affected by the idea of sanity in a society. Insanity, to me, is having an indecisive mind that is unable to accept a uniform idea. By this I mean, a person is insane when they perceive a given idea in a different ways. For example, if a person accepts 2+2=5 and accept that idea that 2+2 will only equal 5, then they aren't insane. However is a person fails to understand the idea of 2+2 and instead is unable to determine a definite value, where to them 2+2=3, 2+2=4, and 2+2=5 all at the same time, is insanity. This form of insanity, however, I call self-sanity, where you as an individual is insane. The other idea presented above this one, i consider to be social-sanity, where your sanity is determined by the social norm. The social insanity, however doesn't imply self insanity because it is possible for someone believes 2+2=5 but accept the idea there is a central value for 2+2, and therefore easily change their thinking so 2+2=4, and therefore are no longer socially insane. Thus, for someone to truly be socially insane they must first be self insane and unable to hold one to the belief of a single true reality.

I worked a long time in this field & have come to understand something many other who work in that field would not agree on literally.
We are all insane really, because few see what really is but what as a group we have agreed upon to see as "Reality". Those we call insane have dropped the agreement. What they see is no more or less insane or unreal than what the majority see most of the time, it is just not the group consensus.
There are a rare few that are the exception. There is a type of Enlightenment that many call Being the Divine Fool. These very wise & Enlightened ones appear to us as sometimes the most insane, but the fault really lies with our inability to see, not theirs.
Many Blessings!

I personally dont believe there is a such thing as sane or insane. This is sort of like the "What is normal?" question. Like normality, sanity is all a matter of perspective. For me spending a day in school is the norm, but for Billy Bob, spending a Monday listening to voices inside of their head is normal. But to the majority of us who are not like Billy, he is abnormal ann maybe even insane. What society considers insane is what does not mentally follow the majority. But then taht raises the question "How do you know most people in society do not think like this? you cannot read their minds..."

Seeing how in fact there is not any set familiar of what's sane or insane, no you could answer the query without being clouded with accrued bias. yet according to that bias, maximum folk might disagree with the aid of fact it would seem tremendously unlikely that a murderer or a affected person with Schizophrenia is greater sane then a scientist.
