What comes first? Morality or conscience? Trust in conscience or trust in morality?

They aren't synonymous.

Thoughts?

They aren't synonymous, but I think that the term "conscience" refers to the experience of emotions like guilt, remorse, and sadness that arise *as a consequence* of a perceived moral violation. You would need to have a moral system in place before you could feel that you in some way violated it.

In my religion we learn that God's Moral Laws are written in our conscience. There is no Bible and no book better than our own Conscience. However, we need to pursue, unfold and bring it to light, because it is really deep within ourselves. It is necessary to learn lessons, go through different experiences so that the veal falls and "reveals" the truth. It is like a long journey into ourselves, so to speak.

So I believe Conscience comes first, but we need to develop enough to understand it.

hello brother... good to see you again.

what comes first is Faith. that is a Gift of Allah. with faith... we can develop a conscience and understand morality. in one of your posts... you stated that there was such a thing as 'objective morality'...

i agree with you.

along with faith, comes hope and love...

and just as hope and love are not synonymous and yet they can be seen in the same light... so do i feel that morality and conscience are 'birds of a feather'.

i don't believe that morality can be taught... but rather... it is something developed through conscience...

those who claim to be moral... probably have little morality [although Allah is the Best of Judges]. rather, they might be seen in the light of Matthew 23.

yes... i would say that faith comes first... and that is a Gift of Allah. Insha'Allah.

warmest of wishes towards you and happy holidays...
salaams...
xx

may the peace of God be with you.

Morality comes first in that it is the target for which we aim at. Conscience is the score card.

conscience came first at the first strike of humanity, than morality grew.
for the individual, morality comes first, because we are everything we perceive with our senses, and by what were taught.
