My smoke detector is incessantly chirping and needs to be replaced. But it is hardwired to the ceiling and I'm not sure how to get it out. It has a battery compartment on one side and then three wires connected to it but I'm not sure how to get them out. Can anyone help me?

The Back-up Battery needs to be replaced. This should be done ASAP. I believe that this is part of a system throughout the house or apartment building, that is wired to a central control / status station. These batteries are of a special type, and (in some cases) can only be purchased from the manufacturer of the smoke alarm unit in question. I can suggest Allied Electronics Co. They have a huge warehouse in Texas, and their prices are reasonable. You can reach them at: 1-800-433-5700 or alliedelect.com. Their Catalog is bigger than a phone book. I hope this will be of some help 2 U.
It does not need to be replaced, that means it's time for a new battery. Replace the battery and the sound will stop, if you're too stupid to do it yourself, your local fire department can do it for you.
