How do I safely remove my smoke detector?

My smoke detector is incessantly chirping and needs to be replaced. But it is hardwired to the ceiling and I'm not sure how to get it out. It has a battery compartment on one side and then three wires connected to it but I'm not sure how to get them out. Can anyone help me?

The Back-up Battery needs to be replaced. This should be done

ASAP. I believe that this is part of a system throughout the house

or apartment building, that is wired to a central control / status

station. These batteries are of a special type, and (in some cases)

can only be purchased from the manufacturer of the smoke alarm

unit in question. I can suggest Allied Electronics Co. They have a

huge warehouse in Texas, and their prices are reasonable. You can

reach them at: 1-800-433-5700 or alliedelect.com. Their Catalog

is bigger than a phone book.

I hope this will be of some help 2 U.

It does not need to be replaced, that means it's time for a new battery. Replace the battery and the sound will stop, if you're too stupid to do it yourself, your local fire department can do it for you.
