That tank is way way too small for your turtle... You need at least a 60 gallon tank even now 10 gallons per inch of carapace (shell).

If it is indeed a male he still has a little growing to do my smallest male is 8" and my largest is 9"

You will need between a 75-90 gallon tank when full grown. But bigger is always better with turtles.

You've got a little monster on your hands. He'll grow slow, but eventually he'll be about the size of a dinner plate. You'll want to get anywhere from 75 - 120 gallons, the bigger the better and you'll probably want to get it sooner rather than later, as the small tank may malform his shell if he gets too big in there.

The record is 11 3/8". However, males usually stop at about 8". To be safe, go for a hundred-gallon tank or something broad and low, like a wading pool.
