What is the subtle difference between "Belief" and "Disbelief"?

Why do some humans believe, and yet other humans disbelieve?
Where exactly is the line of demarcation?
What say you?

Belief, as I understand it, is an element of faith. To me, it's not synonymous with faith, but only one element.

Faith = an action, based upon belief, sustained by confidence.

Disbelief, as I understand it, is in the Greek; moving away from the thing believed. In the Greek word pistis, disbelief is not neutral, but acting away from the belief: apistis

Why do some humans believe, and yet other humans disbelieve?
Everyone has their own perspective on what is good knowledge and what is "evil" knowledge. Those who reject a certain thing will tend to say that it either doesn't exist, or isn't true.

Where exactly is the line of demarcation?
The demarcation is best defined in action; doing things in light of what is being believed or disbelieved. If it is disbelieved, then typically the actions demonstrate the accepted "truth".

Post pictures on that old profile of some penis an say "Look at my package!" then they will stop calling you a girl. Now that I've attempted to make you laugh, on to answering your actual question :-} "living transgender" is just what those people say to themselves to try to marry the thoughts of seeing you as female, and you saying you are male. So they choose to see your maleness, or transgenderedness as something you put on, rather than change their image of you in their head. They also could be genuinily confused. My aunty is very supporting of whatever female to maleness is going on with me, but she doesn't really know that much about transgender and transsexual issues, so she messes up the wording, and wording is so precise when it comes to Trans issues, because the wrong word can totally mess up the meaning, and the truth. For example, I don't Feel like a boy, I Am a boy, I don't want to become a boy, I'm already a boy inside, and I want my Body to become more male. To someone who doesn't know about trans issues, this can be very confusing. I think you know whether or not these people are just confused an ignorant, or if they are closeminded, an close hearted (is that a word? *sweats*) to you, and you should use that to decide if you wanna be around them anymore.

Belief is holding some fact to be true.

Disbelief is not holding it to be true. Bear in mind that is NOT the same as believing the opposite as that would still be a belief (of something else). Disbelief is a lack of belief.

Different people have different criteria - I base my beliefs and understandings on evidence, as that's the only way I can distinguish between reality and fantasy.

So if there's no evidence for some fact, I disbelieve it unless and until confirming evidence becomes available.

Everyone has belief in something, the differences are what we believe in exactly.
LOL!
This Q has had me pondering the nature of belief for over a day now.
I "believe" the subtle difference is discernment.
If one can not discern the truth of a thing, be it Spiritual or mundane, they simply will have a difficult time believing.
I think that some are programmed with a type of "pseudo belief" that isn't really belief at all but programming.
For me, belief has been reinforced by personal inner experience.
The very nature of inner experience makes it difficult to share with another. There are many things I personally believe or know today that at one time I did not, either because I could not see the truth in them or was ignorant.
There is another aspect in my personal history.
For a short time after great disappointment & leaving the Catholic Church I was very angry at God.
This anger colored my vision & beliefs & made me think I was agnostic for a short time.
But then, we are back to discernment.
Emotional reactions to expectations will always color your vision.
Many Blessings!

I don't think there is a subtle difference, they are exact opposites, that is not subtle. As you can see here, the difference inhabiting the same spot causes conflict. The line is simply to be selfless or selfish. To believe your the source of all things good or that god is. For some it is relying on science alone. For others it is relying on scriptures alone. Both should open their eyes to see that logic dictates that science serves god and can help man. That man has a deeper level to him then just the affairs of the world and being a flight or fight beast. There is also upbringing as well as seeing hypocrisy on both sides. Wanting to believe false ideas, a desire for power, or wanting to live life with no restraints on their will, (selfishness) believing all things belong for their taking. Pride in believing they are more intelligent than others by taking out the aspect of a higher source because only then can they truly be greater then others and there fore glorified.
It has to do with levels of understanding and places you grew up. Life experiences.
But as I said this all comes down to having a love for the greater good of all or your self.
