UOPX Policies? Anyone know what happens to someone who commits plagiarism?

One of my classmates copied an answer exactly, from this site actually, as an answer to a DQ (Daily Question). I'm assuming they were caught because we were told to no longer comment on their post. What's going to happen to him/her? I'm just curious, because it upsets me that some of us actually work very hard to get good grades on our own cognizance. This matter should not be taken lightly, and I will be very offended if the guilty party goes unpunished. This is not the first time I've suspected that another classmate is cheating. For some it's quite obvious, especially when normally their posts look as though they were written by a 12 year-old, and then all of the sudden they are using a more robust vocabulary and fewer (if any at all) grammar and punctuation errors.

The punishment can range from a warning, to failing the assignment, to failing the course, and even to being removed from the university. It really depends on what happened - the details of the case.

Remember that as with any university, when an instructor suspects plagiarism, it's a private matter between the instructor, the university, and the student. Thus those other people in your past classes who've obviously plagiarized may well have gotten into trouble, but you simply didn't know that. It was kept private.

Usually, when a student plagiarizes something and posts it in the forum, I do let the other students post in that thread. I've never asked people to stop posting in a thread, but that's certainly within the right of the instructor to do. I address the plagiarism issue with the student directly, and ask them what happened. I then take it from there. But never, in my classroom, does the issue not get addressed.

The UOPX has very strict policies on plagiarism, and instructors are given training on what the university expects of them when it's found. So while it is possible that an instructor might let it pass, it's unlikely - and I certainly never do.
