When I paste a link into one of my answers, why doesn't it work?

Recently I was contacted by a person whose question I had answered. He received an error message when he clicked on the link in my answer. I sent the link to him. It worked.

I pasted a link into another of my answers, submitted the answer, and clicked on the link. I got another error message. I deleted the http;// so that people could copy it, paste it into their browsers, and end up on the right page. I have, however, at least sometimes been able to click on the links in other people's answers and get to the page. Therefore, I think I may be doing something wrong. I would appreciate any ideas anyone might have.

Is it this one:

All I can think of is that if you copy it from another answer when it is active, it may be 'truncating' and chopping off the full page #, which might give an error. If you look at the link in my answer above, you will see that the entire link does not show - it is cut short. If you then went to my answer and COPIED it, it would chop that link - and it would not work right.

That link LOOKS the same, but the last part actually SAYS in the TEXT of the link "page=1..." NOT "page=170" as it should be.
