Yahoo Answers going away from us :(?

Yahoo will Shutdown Answers on May 4th, 2021.

I joined decade ago and I feel it :(

When you joined Yahoo Answers? And what do you think is this fair to shutdown any service without asking the users? I mean it. Yahoo should check the opinion of users!

    Hello Mr. Mahmood.

I began here in Y!A since it started. (Quite the long time.)

To be fair this is an entirely a business decision. Y!A has been losing market share to the competition for years. Any gains in users wasn't enough to offset the loss. I think Oath could of put more effort to make Y!A more attractive, but their attentions is turned elsewhere. Quite unfortunate, since I find this forum easy to use.

Overall, I had fun here answering people's queries and giving some sage advice about things on various topics. Plus the people I've interacted here was fascinating and educational.

I think I may move on to Quora, Reddit (revive my dormant account), and I possibly give Answerbag a try.

Do you really need to be schooled about fairness in the business world? Some of the yahoo stories are opening back up their comments at the end again. If that helps you. It does me.

Yes, it's fair to shut it down without asking the users. The users aren't paying the bills to keep it running while it makes no money for the company that owns it.

I joined forever ago, probably in the first year. It's been on again off again, a time killer answering questions. Answers has turned into a shathole. Much of society has so it's really no suprise. Actual questions are rare and now it's mostly idiots. The value of this venue just doesn't exist anymore.

Yahoo's a private company, and the site is free.

    They owe you nothing.

It was also 10+ years since I joined this site and to be honest it has gone downhill in the last few years.  I can understand why Verizon want to close the site because it is probably more trouble then it is worth.

As for shutting down without informing us, there is no reason for them to seek our advice on anything about this site, it is a free site for users it is Verizon that run it.  They can close the site anytime that they want, the first I knew about it was when I logged on a few minutes ago and there is a headline on the top of the page telling me that is is closing down.

I shall be sad to see it go, but as the other answerer has already stated there was an end to the sensible questions and the users with the knowledge to answer them some time ago.

I joined when the site first opened in 2005 and it was a very different place, with adults asking and answering sensible questions.
