Could my cat have rabies?

I'm worried about whether my cat has rabies. Lately he hasn't been moving his tail at all. It's just been hanging there limp and droopy. Sometimes when I pick him up he meows weirdly. He's also been inside and sleeping a lot more than usual. Sometimes he eats like normal and other times he doesn't eat much. He keeps going into dark places and prodding around as well. Just now, he jumped up on my lap and prodded my legs and sniffed my arm. I actually got a little scared because he was glaring at me and I thought he may bite me. What is wrong with him?

Rabies isn't likely, although why you are letting an unvaccinated cat outdoors is beyond me - rabies vaccines are mandated by law due to the risk of rabies to people!  It sound though that he is ill or injured and needs to go to the vet.  Call today, and get him seen.  The vet can answer your rabies questions.  Remember that there is NO cure for rabies, and if he would by chance have it, so will you from your handling of him.  It's passed via the saliva of an infected animal, and that does not have to be a bite. 

No one here knows what is wrong with him - but the vet will.

usually when animals have rabies, they get aggressive and froth at the mouth and chew away their fur, but I still suggest to get your cat checked by a vet just in case :)
