i want to have some dentist work done and would prefer sedation since its a lot of work that has to be done and they can do it all in one visit if i have sedation.
im 14 wks pregnant and want to know if i can have this done.

Just a heads up,you may not want them to give you a drug called Versed
In fact, many people who use Versed for "conscious sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time.
Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions,conscience sedation,twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does no mean it did not happen!! Amnesia does NOT take place for some patients.

I've never had to be sedated for dental work, other than wisdom teeth removal, so I'm not exactly sure but I needed to correct an answerer about not being able to have a root canal done while pregnant. I had one when I was 36 weeks, along with other minor work. My ob/gyn said it was fine and I was able to take Tylenol 3 (with codeine) as prescribed. I wasn't able to have Novocaine but there is a substitute that is safe during pregnancy that works just as good, imo.
Your dentist should know what a pregnant woman should and shouldn't have medication wise but I would check with my ob/gyn first.

Welcome to pregnancy where there are a lot of no no's. Most OBGYN's prefer to speak with the dentists prior to work getting done. Your OB will ask what he needs to do to get the job done and if any of those meds are a "no no" you might have to wait it out or get local anesthesia only. It's a benefit vs risk thing. I cannot get a wisdom tooth removed until after i deliver because it has to be surgically removed, and my OB said NO on sedation or anesthesia. It sucks but i will do what is necessary to keep my unborn safe.

You need to tell your dentist that you are pregnant. Generally it is considered safe to have local anesthesia for dental work, but not sedation.

when I was in my last trimester with my son I found out I needed a root canal. They were not able to do it b/c of me being pregnant. They said I could not have anything other than local anesthesia ... benzocaine ect. and root canal awake with that would be horrible. I would call your doc. and ask but they didnt allow me. They may just give you some pain meds to help you get through the pain until you have the baby and then do it after.. thats all they could do for me. call and ask though. : )
