Any ideas on how I can get my cat and dog to get along?
I have had my cat for 11 years and my dog for 2. The cat HATES the dog. The dog wants to be friends but will also act very dominating and will run the cat out of the room everytime he tries to come in to see me. My kids and I laugh like crazy when we see this,but it also bothers me that they don't get along after two whole years! Any suggestions?

@ Megan: Thank you for that advice. We do just that all the time and watch the show as well. Once in awhile they will 'kiss' and even lay on my recliner or bed with me at the same time. They are closer now then they have ever been. My cat is much older and has been around me since a kitten, so he's the 'king'. But my dog is a watch dog (Corgie) and she will go running through the room like she is trying to do her 'job' to keep him away from me. Weird...

I would suggest supervised little play dates. get them in a room together but don't close it off so they don't feel like they are trapped. Act casual and natural, maybe have the cat on a bed or couch or something and the dog on the ground at first and pet both of them. Still keep them a pretty good distance apart but pet them both to show them they don't have to compete. Once you pet them and get them relaxed, just kinda give them their space, but stay in the room in case anything goes wrong. They'll be together but not too close to feel uncomfortable. Allow them to leave if they feel to uncomfortable or they start to fight. I would suggest doing this for a little while, each time when you sit between them and pet them, you get them a little closer to each other. I'm not completely sure if this would work but i think it's worth a try. It's like something the dog whisperer would do. Watching his show may also give you some advice.

A male might be extra receptive to different pets, however ladies aren't recognized for being tolerant of alternative pets. Most most probably your cat feels that you've changed him/her, and that his/her territory is invaded through this dog. Also, men are very 'romantic,' they love their homeowners and do not love to proportion them, as they may be able to think harm through their proprietor splitting their affections with a different animal. Do you cuddle the dog in entrance of the cat? Do you will have distinct names or terms on your cat to relief her? Try cuddling the cat whilst the dog is round, forget about the dog and play with the cat, or relief her through utilising the ones distinct names or terms you might have used over the final three years. You need to allow the cat recognise that she remains to be distinct to you. It could also be, nonetheless, that the cat certainly not accepts the dog.
