Is my mystery snail dead?
I've had 3 snails for about 5 months now. They are all mystery snails that I purchased at my college town's Walmart. They are all usually very active, and I have a very nice tank for them with plenty of room. Lately, I've been quite concerned about my yellow mystery snail. He has not moved in about 2 weeks, so he has not had anything to eat. My other snails are completely fine, but for some reason he has stopped moving. I know that dead snails smell very bad, and he does not smell at all. I am not sure if he is in a hibernation phase or what. I do not have much experience caring for aquatic creatures, but I do a lot of research online to make sure I am taking care of them properly. The tank water has been treated Jungle Brand "Start Right" tap water conditioner. My snail has been in the same spot for 2 weeks. It looks like his shell door is very tightly closed and it goes up inside the shell about 1/4 centimeter. Help!
Thanks for your advice, everyone. I took him out and he did smell. He was hanging halfway out of his shell, and i poked him gently with a small plastic spoon and did not get any response. I flushed him today in the toilet in my dorm. Rest in peace, Peanut the snail =( I will change the water to make sure my other snails do not get infected. Thank you all for your advice.
