Colt 1911 MKIV Series 70 ejection problem?

My Colt 1911 .45 acp is denting cases on ejection(not all,just some).It does it with factory ammo and my hand loads. Some are flattened and some will crease on the case mouth. They are striking the bottom of the ejection port as best as I can tell.I have checked the extractor tension and the ejector looks fine. The only other thing I can think of is possibly the recoil spring needs replacing. Currently is has a 16 # spring. I was thinking maybe an 18 # spring might help. I don't want to modify the ejection port. Anyone else have any ideas?

I used to build 1911's.

Going to a heavier spring will not solves this problem - probably make it worse. Here - you would opt for a lighter one, this would allow the slide to exit faster - and - allow the case to clear the slide's port without hitting it.

That said - on a 1911 - you should own two springs - one for 230gr ball, another for light loads. Best to cold blue one of them so you can tell them apart. Smart people measure the spring when the gun is new. This way if you ever have a question - a simple ruler will tell you if it's the fault or not.

Most likely the ejection port has to be lowered. I did this to the ones I owned, and never had any dented cases.
