Is there a law that requires a person to pay a federal income tax?

Second question, Is there a law that requires a person to file income tax returns?
I am during a little research on this matter and asking these questions here on yahoo is part of that research; so anyone who may know for a FACT that there is or is not a law requiring this please provide the federal law that says such.
Thanks much,
Tony :)

Dear rick, although many are indeed in prison for just that, there are actually several cases where people have been found not guilty and also released from prison due to the inability of a judge or an irs agent to provide the federal law that states such...

Dear StephenW, thank you for your great effort, however, that law is referring to the "income tax" and not the FEDERAL INCOME TAX. There is a difference between the two and it still remains unclear as to there being a law that requires a federal income tax. The federal income tax goes directly to the federal reserve bank which in reality is just as federal as the federal express is. That means that your federal income tax is going in the direct pockets of privately run banks, and not one penny of it is being used for the federal government.

16th Amendment
In 1913, Wyoming ratified the 16th Amendment, providing the three-quarter majority of states necessary to amend the Constitution. The 16th Amendment gave Congress the authority to enact an income tax. That same year, the first Form 1040 appeared after Congress levied a 1 percent tax on net personal incomes above $3,000 with a 6 percent surtax on incomes of more than $500,000.
In 1918, during World War I, the top rate of the income tax rose to 77 percent to help finance the war effort. It dropped sharply in the post-war years, down to 24 percent in 1929, and rose again during the Depression. During World War II, Congress introduced payroll

Yes there's a law that allows the collection of income tax.

And your comment about people being released from prison because the judge or IRS couldn't provide a law that states such is just plain bunk. If you want to believe the nonsense than some people post on the internet, go ahead, but that doesn't make it true. People have been found not guilty because it hasn't been proven that they deliberately broke the laws. But not what you state.

Yes and yes.

"are actually several cases where people have been found not guilty and also released from prison due to the inability of a judge or an irs agent to provide the federal law that states such..." - Name one.

Whitey Harrel was found not guilty ONLY of criminal failure to file. He still owed all his taxes. He then WAS found guilty subsequently when he did not pay. Your research should have showed you that. In fact your research should have showed you that he lost SEVERAL suits filed against the IRS. You would also find that his debt increased greatly with all the penalties imposed by the courts for his frivolous suits. His attempt to avoid taxation was, as they say, an EPIC FAIL.

TRY AGAIN CHUCKLES.

Yes

Title 26 - Internal Revenue Code

The people that say that there is no law are call "tax deniers" by the IRS and "tax protesters" by accountants and lawyers. While their theories vary, they all have one thing common. Not one of them as ever been victorious in court and gotten out of paying their taxes.

A few of them (Vernice Kuglin, Tommy Cryer, etc.) have been found not guilty of criminal failure to file and fraud charges by basically claiming that they did not understand the law. HOWEVER, they still had to pay their tax bills plus thousands of dollars in penalties and interest. NO ONE has ever been found not liable for taxes because the IRS could not prove that law exists.

Google "Ed and Elaine Brown". Ed is still screaming "show me the law".......from prison.

it would have to be a plateau tax rate to exclude a group. To pay for what we spend each year...40% or more considering the diminishing returns of raising taxes versus total dollars received by the government. If you want to save the poor of this country taxes you would eliminate the corporate tax and the income tax through repeal of the 16fh amendment and then add a sales tax of 15 to 20% on all primary market purchases.
