Do you think tattoos are becoming more mainstream in the hospitality industry?
I recently started a job at a Doubletree (branch of Hilton) and noticed a girl that had tattoos down to her wrists. I asked her if she got the tats before or after she was hired. She said "after, but I'm supposed to keep them covered". Her sleeves were rolled up- I saw them. No one said a word. I also worked with a guy last weekend that had "gangsta" tats up & down his arms, including letters on his fingers. He was a SERVER, not a bus or runner. We also went to Office Max & the cashier was a young, cute girl with tats on the insides of both wrists (wearing short sleeves).
So do you think people are being hired more on ability, availability & personality rather than appearance and ink?
