I kinda like the south waterfront. It is very much so living in a model. Train and everything. If you cross the Ross Island bridge you'll see what I mean. The south park blocks are very serene/urban. The pearl has its charm but it makes me want to stab people (NY native here). Outer east side is kinda sloppy. Inner east, depending on exactly how far out can come and go. Hollywood on Sandy isn't bad.
If I could just poof and make my wish come true (limited to Portland) I would live on Sauvie Island. It's Po-dunk wonderland 15 minutes from downtown. dead silence and Hakes and Angels (Google those clubes if you dare) within walking distance... if you're that drunk/determined.
