cat without water- how long?

my husband accidentally closed two 3 month old kittens in his office without water for 24 hours. When we found them they drunk a lot of water and now they seem fine, but is it possible that they have any damage (kidneys etc.), or that they need treatment other than drinking water?

Going without water can cause kidney damage but for the 24 hours hopefully it won't. That is the reason cat owners should only feed wet canned food and add some water to the food so the cats get more fluids. Cats have a very low thirst level and are usually somewhat dehydrated all the time.

Following the guidelines given in the 3 links you will have cats that live a long time and be healthy.
Cats going without food for a few days can get fatty liver and that can kill the cat. That is why cats that stop eating and drinking need to be seen by a vet immediately.
