When I was younger a local oldies station used to play a series of three old radio spots every halloween. They would sound like a radio news broadcast and when they would interview people on the street they would play snippets of songs.
I'm not describing this very well, i hope someone out there knows what I'm talking about.
P.S. It's not The War of the Worlds broadcast.

I bet you are thinking of Dickie Goodman- he did many comedy records like that
Dickie Goodman had a long string of novelty hit songs and dumb ditties from the late 1950s-late 1970s starting "The Flying Saucer Parts 1 & 2" (1956, as Buchanan and Goodman). His numerous other hits also included "Ben Crazy" (1962), "Batman And His Grandmother" (1966), and "Mr. Jaws" (1975).
Bill Buchanan and Dickie Goodman are best remembered for their creation of the "break in" record format that consists of snippets of popular tunes spliced together and interspersed with dialog in the form of, e.g., a radio show or an interview.

More than 45 years ago, Dickie Goodman had a similar idea. He would take bits of songs — often songs that were beginning to climb the charts — and with a grease pencil and a razor blade, cut them up and give them new meaning.
He would string together bits of music with a voice narration — usually a reporter at a mock press conference — and use these musical cues from popular songs to provide the sarcastic “answers” to his setup questions.
