I was curious about general opinion and anyone's stories... I have a friend who is thinking about it (her cat has cancer) but to me it seems like a lot of effort and discomfort for the cat... to what avail? Another year of life, tops?

While I am an animal lover and can COMPLETELY understand why someone would want to try do everything to save their pet's life. I just sorta think its not a good idea to give a cat chemo - a lot of people don't do well during chemo I don't think its fair to the cat - they have no say.
I think your friend should seek out a reiki healer instead its safer for everyone and less expensive. You can find a lot of reiki groups that you can just add the name of the person or pet to their list and they will send out healing energy to them. Also I've heard that the catholic church has nuns that pray for all types of situations - I think there are even a group of nuns that pray for pets.

Most cancers in cats are rapid and the cats do not respond well. If they can afford it, its their money. But if they are putting out money for the cat's chemo and neglecting their own needs (house, car, food, etc) then I don't think they should be spending the money on the cat because it won't make the cancer go away; just prolong the cat for a few months maybe.

I did chemo on my dog. She lived happily another 8 months. Dogs do not get as sick as humans do from chemo. I don't know about how it affects cats. I actually am so glad I did everthing I could for my dog and she had a wonderful life up to the end where she died peacefully in her sleep after a great sunny fun weekend.

I think euthanasia is a kinder expression of compassion for a cat with Cancer.
