Im a licensed Psychologist with a Bachelors in Psych and a Ph.D in Clinical psych... Im starting at a new job and the interviewer asks me what I want as a starting salary, how much should I ask for? I dont want to overestimate but I also expect a decent wage to start off, after all i did go to grad school for 6 years... I was thinking $120,000 starting, is this too much?

What type of agency are you working? I am surprised you honestly didn't do an analysis of salary ranges for licensed Psychologists? Yes, 120,000 is way too much unless you are the best Psychologist in the country who has pioneered research that everyone wants a bite of. In fact, the interviewers will have some fun at your expense after your interview if you tell them you want six figures.
Is this a clinic, a hospital, the VA, private practice, etc?? What are your job duties going to be? Are you going to be a supervisor? Have a lot of job responsibilities?
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics 2010 median salary for a Licensed Psychologist was $68,640 per year .
The VA is a higher paying employer for licensed mental health professionals.....and their salary range for Psycholoists for one position was $57,000 another $68,000. I can tell you that on average a licensed Psychologist does not make six figures.
If you can provide the type of agency, the size, their revenue base, job duties...what is your specialty? Do you have extra training or credentials? How many other Psychologists or therapists work in the agency? ..then that will be what you need to provide a reasonable salary based on realistic expectations.
