My hair naturally is around medium brown, although lately I've been dying it bright red (box dye.) I want to go back to my natural color but also have blonde ombre going down to the ends. I'm getting this professionally done, but I know they will have to strip the very faded red, and this will be the first time my hair will ever have been bleached. How bad do you think it will be?

Are they stripping or bleaching the hair? I'm confused because bleaching is not the same as stripping. Stripping hair is done with a stripping agent that pulls the pigments put into your hair from dyes but it does not strip the natural pigments out. Bleaching pulls all pigments out natural or otherwise, although it doesn't do it very good due to its lack of toning agents which causes it to turn hair ugly orange, yellow and red tones. If they strip your hair they should be able to get enough of the dye out to cover it up with a green based ash tone. There should be no need for bleach.

I would personally let it grow. That is very horrible for your hair. After it grows give it a nice big cut!
