Why is it the last three times I have tried to report a question for abuse I get the response "Something has gone wrong..."?
I find it very strange that those three questions I tried to report were nothing more than anti-Republican political rants...

I've found that happens when either I am the first report (maybe) or my report caused the item to drop (usually). Go back, refresh the page and see if the item is gone or if the "report abuse" link is no longer there. If either of these is true, your report went through, despite the message you received.
