ive been using Google Desktop since 2006.... all i really use it for is the Index and Search for emails and files. Google discontinued Google Desktop in 2011.
Would the Windows 8 built in search be considered a good replacement? or is there another program with the same awesome search functionality as Google Desktop had?
i can always download and use Google Desktop, but now that i am getting a new computer....i am wondering if there is a replacement thats better. any suggestions?

The Windows 7 search box was considered a good enough replacement as it has much faster indexing than previous versions of Windows (it was the main reason that Google Desktop Search was discontinued as far as I'm aware), and I think the Windows 8 search would also be considered a replacement that is also easier and more visual to use than Windows 7.
I did a Google search, and found some alternatives here http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/7-awesome-alternatives-windows-search-si/
There are some tips for using Windows search (which seems to be written for Windows 7) here http://www.labnol.org/software/windows-desktop-search-tips/17787/
Well, I have searched for several programs, most of them are slow or do not search all files or need a lot of resources. The best solution for me was installing google desktop in a win XP virtual machine and sharing the folder with my Windows 7 system.
For that one feature (search) the Win7 box is fine. However, desktop did so much more (all the gadgets: including a photo feed from your library, news feed, weather feed, system resources)... these are what i really care about a replacement for.
