Why Are There So Few Women Auto Mechanics?

Is this a field of work women do not find fulfilling or attractive? What could the reason be?

because it makes most men feel stupid if there girlfriend knows more about a car than they do, so most girls don't bother. like megan fox in transformers lol.

Two main factors: culture and physical strength.

Culture continually reinforces that women shouldn't do anything even remotely mechanical. This is one of the worst aspects of our culture.

Turning a wrench, breaking through years of rust and damaged threads, takes a good deal of strength. Many men I know have indufficent muscle mass to work with commonly available tools in this field. Even fewer women have the needed strength. Most of the time, simply using a longer wrench just isn't an option.

Intimidation. Lots of women, however, work on the field. Auto cad, biotechnology, auto design, auto mechanics, ect. My sister is in the field. Also lots of men are sexist and won't accept graduated and fully skilled women in fields that mostly involve men. Germany is a big area for women grads who work in that industry. Lots of places also can be big areas for women who work in auto and technology.

In B4 hate, but it involves thinking and putting broken stuff back together.

Last I checked, there aren't restrictions on women getting into auto tech programs or your average STEM program at a university.

Yet, they are loading up in liberal arts and other fluff programs like never before.

That help you?

You're welcome.

society says that they can not do it but i have worked with more than a few that would surprise you. i even had one as an instructor. also it is very dirty work so that part may not be all that attractive.
