Ceramic or stainless steel drinking fountains for cats?

Hello. We recently got a kitten, and as is often the case with cats, he doesn't drink much water. We're looking to get a drinking fountain to encourage him to drink water regularly, but all the models we've found on Amazon and similar sites have gotten very mixed reviews. Some of them apparently break down shortly after arriving, while others are too noisy. Also, it would seem that the manufacturers don't sell pumps separately, preferring to oblige customers to buy a new fountain altogether when something goes wrong with the pump. Can any of you share your experiences with ceramic or stainless steel drinking fountains for cats, i.e. are you satisfied or dissatisfied with your purchase, and are there any makes and models you would specifically recommend, or to the contrary advise me not to get? Any pertinent information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Hi David. You may not need to go to the trouble of buying a fountain. Try using a glass bowl that is wide enough to keep her whiskers from touching the edges. You can also try setting out a couple of bowls in different rooms and change out the water often. I feed my two cats twice a day and they get fresh water at each meal. They are both in the habit of having a drink at the end of their meal.

I suggest glass because many cats don't like the scent of plastic or metal and they will refuse to drink. Try these suggestions before you spend money on a fountain.

I honestly wouldn't waste the money unless you plan on leaving him alone for extended periods of time (like a weekend trip). Just a regular water dish is sufficient. Just keep it somewhere where you will pass by a few times a day to make sure it's still full. Everyday rinse the dish and refill with fresh water. The cat will drink when he's thirsty.

I have an electrical one and that is all I have seen. I would think a battery operated fountain would not work as well because it would not supply enough power to have the pump circulate the water.
