I have a flight from Vienna to Chicago with connection in Amsterdam, is 1h 25 min layover enough?

KLM flight.
Or should I take a 3h 50 min layover?

If your incoming flight is on time, it will not be a problem.
You will be checked in already and go through a 'transfer only' passport and security check which is not as likely to have extreme queues.
On the other hand, it is the minimum with which I would be comfortable and I would not mind to spend three hours in Schiphol, Amsterdam airport.

Amsterdam only has one airport, so you do not need to cross town, and the two terminal buildings are connected in the center. It can mean a 30 minute walk if you need to go from one end to the other, but that is about it.

Yes, that should be enough.

Amsterdam Airport is easy to navigate: all gates are connected in a single terminal building. The only possible delay is the queue through immigration as you pass from the Schengen zone (where you flight from Vienna arrives) to the non-Schengen zone (where your flight to Chicago leaves from).

Note that KLM flights to the US have extra security checks at the gate, but that again should be no problem.

Remember also that airlines sell connections that are reasonably doable. It is not in their interest to sell connections that are impossible to make, since that would disturb their schedules and possibly cost them in additional compensations.
