Can I force my mailman to stay on my cement path?
He walks up a cement path to my porch, puts my mail in my box, then instead of using the path to leave he walks off the side of the porch, over my plants and across my yard.

Don't mess with the mailman, I did, regretted it.
You will have to change your landscaping to make it unpleasant to him to take that path.

First politely ask him to stay on the path. If he doesn't then you'll have to call his superior and/or put up some sort of barrier like a railing to keep him from going that direction.

Get some stones for him to step on. That way you can point out your attempt at compromise when you photogragh him failing to comply.Hope for the best but but money on the worst when dealing with humans.
Codger is right about the berberis(barberry), their spines break off and stay under the skin and get infected so easily. There is a variety...Korean I think...that has more numerous, longer spines.
Really ?
They will do this to save time and steps on there route. But if asked not to walk on you lawn or plants in your case then they will or are not suppose to walk there any more. Just ask him/her to use the walk from now on but do be polite.

First try asking him politely to stay on the path. If that doesn't work, then plant some poison ivy in your yard.
